Tips for preventing theft on campus

With the start of the academic year, there are many people on campus, and there have been cases of computers being stolen from AU’s unlocked buildings. We therefore encourage all employees to be extra vigilant.

Late summer and the start of the academic year mean that there are many people on campus. Unfortunately, there have also been cases of theft at AU, with computers being stolen in broad daylight.

We therefore encourage all employees to be extra vigilant and follow these tips:

  • Don’t leave your computer or other valuables unattended when you leave your office.
  • Lock your computer in a lockable drawer unit or similar at the end of the working day, if possible.
  • Be aware of who is in your building. If you see someone you don’t recognise, you can politely ask them what brings them there.

By staying vigilant and looking out for our own and each other’s belongings, we can help prevent theft and ensure that our shared workplace remains a safe and secure environment.
